Blogs

Life is a constant journey ~ we’re often juggling the demands and responsibilities of day-to-day living with trying to take care of ourselves and the needs of others. I like to see it as a dance…it can often feel that just as you are starting to master the steps of this fine dance, the song changes, keeping us on our toes and ultimately growing and learning new things.

I’ve developed Preventative Health Solutions to give you some supportive encouragement and guidance alone the way so that you can go with flow and even get your groove on as the songs keep changing.

Register here to receive your free dose of Preventative Health Solutions blogs (PHS) as they come to life.

My intention is to create content that is practical, interesting, (hopefully) insightful and most of all useful. If you have any areas of health that you’re interested in or have questions that arise from the blogs, please reach out and let me know. There’s so many different health topics and educational information that is constantly inspiring and humbling me I love to share!

Have a look through some of the PHS blogs, events and inspirations below to help you get started on your health journey.

Food as Medicine

Food as Medicine

How do we make our food become our medicine? Well lucky for us, we can easily access whole “real” food in Australia, which is what I consider medicine! Although there is certainly a lot of food currently available in Australia (and the world for that matter), that isn’t exactly what I would call ‘Medicine” as well! So what constitutes food being medicine, or not? Let’s take a bit of a closer look at this. Foods that are Medicine are usually defined by the following qualities;   It comes from the...

What is Integrative & Functional Medicine?

What is Integrative & Functional Medicine?

Well this certainly isn’t a new concept however this terminology may be new to you, so let’s break it down.   Integrative Medicine (IM), like the names suggests, allows for all qualified practitioner’s within the health care industry to interact and communicate about their treatment protocols and insights about the clients that they treat, as long as they have the clients consent.   The manner in which the specific practitioner uses their expertise will vary with each practitioner, although the holistic treatment of all of the...

How to cope with an injury?

How to cope with an injury?

I injured my ankle recently, I received a bruised bone from a very heavy surfboard crashing into it while I was surfing my local break in Byron Bay. I’ve been using crutches to help me get around and I received an overwhelming amount of love and care from supportive friends making sure I was ok.   The interesting thing was that the injury left me feeling really vulnerable, I couldn’t drive, I couldn’t walk around properly, I needed help to go shopping and cook food, I needed lifts and to ask favours to get simple things...

Why see a Naturopath?

Why see a Naturopath?

Why see a Naturopath? I pondered this question while holidaying in Bali earlier this month (one of the many benefits of having holidays!).  I realised the best way to answer it would be to give you an experience of my own health journey, with the hopes that it will shed some light on Naturopathy and the Preventative Health Industry. My Story As a child I was relatively healthy.  I experienced cold sores from time to time but it wasn’t until I hit puberty that my health began to get ‘rocked’.  My first menstrual cycle occurred...

Why Detox?

Believe it or not, we are living in a pretty toxic world these days! Yep, sounds confronting doesn’t it?! But DON’T panic! Instead come with me on a little journey…. I’m going to take you down the “Who, What, Where, Why and When” path of the Detox business (just not in that exact order ha ha).   What is Detox? Detoxification or cleansing (a much friendlier word for it) is a completely natural, built-in healing mechanism of everyone’s body system. How well this built-in cleansing system operates and how efficient it is can...

What’s with Gluten?!

What’s with Gluten?!

What’s with Gluten?!   This is possibly one of the most frequently asked questions that I get when I’m in clinic, so I thought it was about time for me to write a blog about it, to help people understand why most health care practitioners may ask you to have a rest from gluten, especially if you are struggling with your health.   Gluten is a protein found in a variety of common grains including; Wheat and wheat varieties like spelt, kamut, farro and durum, plus products like bulgar and semolina, it is also found in oats,...

When you’re sinking ….

When you’re sinking ….

It’s a funny thing when you find yourself sinking in the middle of an ocean…when all of a sudden the safety of the vessel you’re in drops away and you’re left floating in the big blue, feeling small, vulnerable and helpless… This was my recent experience… it was a beautiful sunny day and there was a cool adventure on offer, so I said yes and didn’t give much more thought to it than that. We took a friend’s canoe and set off towards a well-known dive spot called ‘Julian Rocks’ (two big rocks sticking out of the water...

Sun Medicine

Winter in the southern hemisphere is often the coldest season of the year, and July being smack bang in the middle of winter is no exception! This can make it a really powerful time for us to go within and allow us to take time to slow things down and nourish ourselves. The winter directive is all about keeping warm, including eating warming foods and increasing more cooked foods in the diet, as well as making extra time to rest, nurture and sleep. Winter is also a time for inner reflection and inquiry, which allows us to take stock of our...

Sweet Hawaii

Sweet Hawaii

Aloha! I’ve just returned home from an amazing holiday in Hawaii and “aloha” is probably the most common word you will hear over there! Its meaning is truly beautiful, as it is not only used in both greeting someone and saying goodbye, it also means love, respect and affection. There are other powerful spiritual messages and intentions behind this sweet word and one of the deeper teachings of it is to guide us to love our own beings first and afterwards to spread this love to others.   Doesn’t that just make “aloha” sound that...

Winter is coming! Keep your Immune strong…

Winter is coming! Keep your Immune strong…

As we prepare for the coming winter season down here in the southern hemisphere, I have started to notice a lot of immune system issues arising in my clinic, like colds, flu’s, hay fever, sinusitis and allergies. In my view I can see how a lot of these health issues that arise at this time of the year are one of the ways  the body tries to get rid of the old to make way for the new-by having a good old fashion clean out! So I’m in big favour of supporting the innate healing wisdom of the body system during this process, as it is an...
